I've had this bookmarked for a while but only just got around to reading it today, and it couldn't have come at a better time. I've been extremely stressed out recently about work, and the reminder about the value of working for free really hit me, both by putting my mind at peace and serving as inspiration for why we do what we do.

Among the above mentioned were many other useful points (or nuggets) to constantly be reminded of. I'm sure I'll be looking at this again :)

Thank you for sharing!Hope Rubinkowskihttps://www.blogger.com/profile/14693952912825648742noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4067036419397372826.post-26798953580068526742012-12-04T10:16:59.252-08:002012-12-04T10:16:59.252-08:00"Rebuilding burnt up bridges is hard work, es..."Rebuilding burnt up bridges is hard work, especially when you didn't have to set fire to them in the first place." In Washington, you have to be matriculated in order to get internships on set--it's the law.

I'm not sure about Utah, but here in Seattle we have callboards where people post looking for crew, like this one: http://nwfilmforum.org/live/collection/resources/101 People also still use Craigslist for this, I think. There may be Utah-specific ones though--there's actually a decent amount of production happening there I believe.

You should also tell them to go to screenings at Sundance and stay for Q&A's to learn that way, since it's right at their fingertips.

And for the record, I am anti-slavery. :)Megan Griffithshttps://www.blogger.com/profile/00865750554716179672noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4067036419397372826.post-20662019962730724342012-11-21T12:24:17.630-08:002012-11-21T12:24:17.630-08:00Some of my students read your post, and they want ...Some of my students read your post, and they want to know where to work for free? I really want to learn as much as I can and I know I need to be humble, patient, and kind if I want to make it in this business.
